Yesterday we discussed about Facebook’s new feature that allows users to switch between getting real time streams of news or activities taking place, and highlights of what friends have shared online in the preceding 24 hours. News Feed picks re-cap stories based on factors including how many friends have liked and commented on them. The Live Feed option funnels updates and news about online friends’ activities to Facebook home pages as the information surfaces. I’ve gave it try this morning (Singapore time) and I personally find it quite impressive.
But apparently, many Facebook users dislike it because they are able to see EVERYTHING on their home page, be it flairs, friend accepts, and application posts.

Facebook is making rapid changes to its designs, earlier this week it changed its homepage design featuring, among other things, a “Top News” filter for your news feed. Yesterday Facebook announced those changes will be rolling out today, and broke down the reasoning behind the updates, which it says were largely a result of user feedback.
According to Facebook blog, when you log in you’ll now be able to toggle between two views: your News Feed, which is essentially what used to live in the Highlights section, and the Live Feed, which is the same real-time feed from your friends that you’re used to. You can edit what appears in that feed via an “Edit Options” link at the bottom of the page.

Today Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 is released and is available for enhancing your gaming experience . Seen by many as the last chance for Konami to regain ground lost to main rival FIFA, PES 2010 is a huge release. If you saw my impression pieces last week you won’t be surprised by the review – PES 2010 offers the best on-pitch videogame football experience. But will it sway you from FIFA?
Forget the lack of official licences, restricted online options and occasionally incomprehensible menu – Pro Evolution Soccer has always delivered where it matters most, on the pitch. PES 2010 continues the trend and is simply a joy to play. The action is fast, instinctive and expressive. Aerial through balls are a particular delight but cushioned first-time passes and accurately weighted crosses are all a joy. Headers feel much more realistic now too, with the players responding realistically to your timed button presses.

Google earns billions of dollars a year from the Internet, and commands a majority market share of online advertising budgets. As such, their focus is not only in maintaining/increasing market share but also to enlarge the market itself. And that can only be done by increasing Internet usage and increasing quality publishers.
Here are 10 tools that I used most from Google, many of them are superior even to paid tools offering similar functions.
- Google Analytics
Google Analytics is easily the tool most dear to me for building my Internet business. Many other tools I have tried, free or paid can’t provide nearly as much information and such ease of use as Google Analytics. You can get stats on what keywords people searched for which resulted in them reaching your website, where your traffic came from – organic, direct, referred etc, and more. [click to continue…]

According to Technorati’s State of the Blogosphere 2009 report, 72% of the respondents said that they blog for passion and make no income through blogging. However, the rest (professional bloggers) are making more money than ever from blogs. Among the professional bloggers, 54% are part-timers, 32% are self-employeds, and the remaining 14% are corporates. 17% of the self-employed bloggers make a living from blogging, and their main sources of revenue are through display ads, search ads, affiliate marketing links, paid speeches, and being a spokesblogger. Only a relatively small percentage of them earn money from paid events, rich media ads, and paid postings.

Microsoft launched the beta version of its latest OS months ago but today Microsoft’s Windows 7 is officially launched. Windows 7 came up with great expectations and when its beta version rolled out its download links and reviews were spread like forest fire and its popularity can be determined by the fact that Windows 7 is the biggest pre-order item in the history of Amazon UK and a perpetual trending topic on Twitter. The reactions from users and reviewers have been mostly positive, but after the lukewarm it’s-ok-but-why-should-I-switch-from-WinXP attempt that was Vista, the fact that people can’t wait to get their hands on Windows 7 is hardly a surprise.

Even though it is engaged in a nasty legal battle with its founders over its future, Skype continues to rack up impressive numbers. In today’s third quarter earnings from eBay (which still owns Skype, but is preparing to unload it), the company breaks out Skype’s performance.
Skype’s registered users grew 41 percent to 521 million people. That’s a stunning 40 million new registered users in the past three months. Revenues grew 29 percent to $185 million. Free Skype-to-Skype minutes grew 74 percent to 27.7 billion minutes, whereas SkypeOut minutes (which is what members pay for) grew 44 percent to 3.1 billion minutes.

After three years of faltering financials, the internet company Yahoo declared that its businesses have “stabilised” as deep cost cuts and a strategic overhaul yielded a 244% surge in quarterly profits.
Although Yahoo’s revenue slipped by 12% year-on-year to $1.58bn (£964m), the Silicon Valley firm’s profits bounced from $54m to $186m for the three months to September, beating Wall Street forecasts and sending the company’s shares up by 5% in after-hours trading.
